Fomatta Dennis drives the streets of downtown St. Paul for the first time with a driving instructor. Dennis is from Liberia and a senior in college.

"I thought it was going to be just in the parking lot, but then we went out, out on the highway!

When I came home and told my husband, 'Guess what! Guess what! I drove on the highway!' He didn't believe me.

Then I called my mom. She didn't even believe that I did it. Then I called my sister in Africa. 'I drove on the highway! I went 60 miles per hour!' I called my best friend, too. Everybody couldn't believe that I did it.

I want to get my license. I can't wait. I have to take three buses to go to school. It's going to be a great help for my family, too. Right now, if my husband can't take us, we don't go. Every time I have to depend on somebody. Freedom, that is what I want."
