Last month, I had the opportunity to shoot a video project for Xcel Energy at the brand-new Sonnentag Center at UW–Eau Claire. The space is impressive — though the challenge was that the building was still mostly empty when we arrived to film.

We wove in b-roll footage provided by the client, combining it with interviews and drone material I shot to bring the story to life.

The piece was beautifully edited by Renny McCauley, a new collaborator who just joined Lindsey and me in our Minneapolis studio. Renny’s editing talent allows me to shoot and produce videos at a much faster clip. While I love editing, Renny is especially gifted at it (!) — which frees me up to focus on shooting more projects.

This summer I had the opportunity to produce a series of six short films on student internships at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was a wonderful experience meeting so many students and seeing the fascinating research and creative projects they were up to.

One highlight was meeting student Alex Bordelon during her internship at the Minnesota Museum of American Art, a gem in St. Paul I hadn’t known about before. The artwork was beautiful, and I look forward to returning with my kids soon.

Here's the finished piece. I look forward to sharing more videos from this internship series in future blog posts!

I’m excited to launch this new blog! Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes stories, reflections on projects, and highlights from my journey as a Twin Cities documentary filmmaker.

This is a space to showcase both the artistry and the process of visual storytelling. You’ll see behind-the-scenes stills, stories from my collaborations with Lindsey Seavert, and highlights from my work with organizations such as Macalester College, Carleton College, St. Thomas University, Children’s Minnesota, Minnesota Public Radio, American Public Media, and Xcel Energy.
